Five months before Allyson Beedy walked down the aisle, her world had already shifted. Her mother, Mary Tjaden, died unexpectedly from cancer at age 66 — a loss that weighed heavily as Allyson prepared for what was meant to be one of the happiest days of her life. And yet, on her wedding day, something unexpected unfolded — a moment of light and wonder that offered what Allyson believes was her mother’s sign from heaven, reassuring her that she was still watching over her.

When Allyson and her now-husband, Dustin, married on Oct. 22 at a wine farm in southern Tuscany, Mary could not be there in person. To honor her, the couple reserved an empty chair during the ceremony — a simple, deeply personal tribute to a woman whose absence was profoundly felt.

What no one could have planned for came later.

Despite severe weather warnings in the days leading up to the wedding, the ceremony itself unfolded under calm skies. Then, shortly after it ended, the clouds parted. A double rainbow appeared — and one of its arcs aligned directly with the chair reserved for Allyson’s late mother.

“My mom wanted to make her presence known,” Allyson, 35, shared with PEOPLE.

The chair was draped with a canvas bearing a message written to Mary: “We see you in every sunrise, sunset, & within all the stars. You’re watching from the best seat in the house. I love you, Mom.” During cocktail hour, staff rearranged seating for the reception, unintentionally leaving that chair alone on the grass — precisely where the rainbow would later appear.

“Seemingly, it was fate that the chair was left out when the rainbow appeared,” Allyson told PEOPLE.

For videographer Nina Calderaro, the moment felt extraordinary. She was among the first to notice the rainbow and alert the couple.

“It was a rare moment of supernatural timing, love, hope and a hug from the heavens all at once,” Calderaro told PEOPLE. “Truly once in a lifetime, and probably the most meaningful moment that I will ever capture in my career.”

Calderaro added that even without having known Mary personally, her presence felt unmistakable.

“I never had the chance to meet Mary, but I will say, to know Allyson is to love Allyson, and I know for a fact that her mama loved her so much that there was no way she was going to miss her wedding day,” she said.

When Allyson finally saw the rainbow for herself, the emotion was overwhelming.

“When I saw the rainbow lining up perfectly with Mom’s chair and then even splitting into two rainbows, I was undoubtedly in shock,” she told PEOPLE. “I wasn't sure how or if I would get a sign from my mom on my wedding day. I know some people get butterflies or birds, but I was not expecting a rainbow as big and bright.”

In the days since, that moment has continued to bring comfort. Watching the footage and looking back at the photos still stirs deep emotion.

“I really tried to keep myself composed for our wedding because I was worried if I started crying, I would not stop,” Allyson shared with PEOPLE. “I look back at the video now and it makes me feel close to her again and gets me emotional every time.”

For Allyson, the rainbow has become more than a breathtaking coincidence. It is a reminder that love does not end with loss.

“I think the rainbow was my mom telling me she was there and that she did indeed have the best seat in the house,” she said. “I think the rainbow symbolized the beauty after the storm. It has been so difficult going through celebrating the best time of my life while grieving someone who was such a big part of my life. This moment brought me peace that my mom is safe and is always watching over me. I will now always look at rainbows and know that she is there.”

What began as a day shaped by grief ultimately became one marked by quiet awe — a fleeting moment of light that offered reassurance, connection and a sense of grace Allyson says she will carry with her always.
