Hollywood actor-turned-stand-up comedian and YouTube megastar Russell Brand stirred laughter, controversy, and applause during a recent appearance at the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event in Phoenix, Arizona.

Taking the stage on Friday as one of the event’s high-profile guests, Brand mixed sharp political commentary with personal humor, including pointed jabs at his ex-wife, pop superstar Katy Perry, and her rumored new partner, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Brand, known for his outspoken views and unfiltered delivery, did not hold back as he joked about Trudeau, whom he mockingly described as a “globalist stooge.”

Drawing cheers from the crowd, Brand portrayed Trudeau as what critics often label a symbol of modern “woke” politics and metrosexual liberalism, a characterization that fit neatly with the tone of the conservative-leaning event.

The comedian’s remarks took a more personal turn when he referenced his past marriage to Katy Perry. Brand and Perry were married from 2010 to 2012 after meeting on the set of Brand’s film Get Him to the Greek. Reflecting on their relationship, Brand struck a surprisingly affectionate note before pivoting back to humor.

“Look, Katy Perry—I was married to her. I still love her,” Brand said, noting with a grin that he was aware her mother was in the audience. “I was fine with Orlando Bloom,” he added, referring to Perry’s past relationship with the actor. “But Justin Trudeau? Come on, man. Don’t put me in the same category as that guy.”

The crowd erupted as Brand continued, labeling Trudeau a “globalist stooge” and distancing himself from what he sees as the political and ideological world Trudeau represents.

Perry and Trudeau recently fueled public speculation after making their relationship Instagram-official in a post shared on December 6, setting off waves of commentary across social media and entertainment news circles.

However, Brand’s appearance at TPUSA went far beyond celebrity gossip and punchlines. In a more serious segment of his speech, he made a striking declaration about his future, or lack thereof, in the entertainment industry.

“I’ll never be in Hollywood again,” Brand told the audience. “I’m not interested in the arts of deception—false illusion, false idols, and celebrity.” He explained that his experiences in the industry left him disillusioned, adding that the lifestyle no longer aligns with who he has become.

Brand also opened up about his personal and spiritual transformation, describing what he called a profound reawakening of faith. Speaking candidly, he contrasted his past with his present beliefs.

“I lived a dumb, hedonic Hollywood life,” he admitted. “To go from that Hollywood headiness to being a Bible-believing Christian is a huge journey.” He emphasized that the change was once unimaginable to him, but now feels deeply real and transformative.

“I didn’t think it was possible to be changed in the way that I’ve been changed,” Brand said. “I thought it was inconceivable, unimaginable—but here I am.”

His remarks were met with strong applause, as Brand framed his personal evolution as part of a broader call for radical change, both individually and culturally. By the end of his appearance, Brand had made it clear that while he may be stepping away from Hollywood, he is far from stepping out of the public conversation.
