Two local light shows featuring illuminations set to festive music are sure to bring the spirit of the holiday season to the hearts of even the grinchiest of scrooges.
Christmas on Runaway at 24 Runaway Brook Road in Lancaster includes 32,000 colorful LED lights, making for a remarkable show that has only gained popularity over the years. Courtesy of the Cova family, who spend weeks setting it up and maintaining it, this year’s setlist includes a “K-Pop Demon Hunters” medley from the wildly popular movie “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, “Defying Gravity” from the “Wicked” soundtrack, and more.
The lively show runs every night through the season, typically 5 to 10 p.m., and people can tune their radio to 90.1 FM to enjoy the full experience. The playlist and hours of operation can vary due to traffic and weather, so visitors are encouraged to follow the Christmas on Runaway Facebook page for updates.
This is the sixth year Christmas on Runaway is a collection site for The Joseph and Leslie Carr Foundation, a Lancaster-based nonprofit that feeds hundreds of families in the region during the holidays among other year-round community efforts. Donations are accepted in the box on site at Christmas on Runaway, by visiting jlcarrfoundation.org/donate, and via Venmo @JLCarrFoundation.

Sholan Farms in Leominster also offers a spectacular show for all ages. Friends of Sholan Farms Vice President and longtime city resident Steve Smith enjoys putting together the annual holiday lights tradition, one of the many special projects at the 1125 Pleasant St. farm he and his wife Cynthia are involved in.
The Sholan Farms display is synced to music played on 89.5 FM and features 15 to 20 minutes of holiday tunes playing in a loop from 5 to 9 p.m. each evening, weather permitting, through the holidays. People can simply park in the lot facing the display, turn off their headlights, and enjoy the jovial show showcasing thousands of lights dancing to the music.
