While great performers leave behind their music, legendary artists like B.B. King leave behind a legacy—a blazing path that continues to illuminate and inspire long after they’re gone. Now, the “King of Blues” will receive his well-deserved recognition through an upcoming biopic from Canton Entertainment.
The King Ascends To His Throne
B.B. King embodied the very essence of blues. Every note that flowed from his fingers carried the weight of the Mississippi Delta, transforming pain into something transcendent. His beloved guitar, Lucille, wasn’t merely an instrument but a voice that sang alongside him. According to the History Vault,
“King introduced millions to the raw emotion and lyrical power of the blues, melding the traditional Mississippi Delta sounds of his childhood with gospel, jazz and rhythm and blues.”
Together, man and guitar created what many consider the definitive sound of Delta blues. History further notes that
“B.B. King’s signature sound—defined by clear, fluid single-note lines, expressive bends and vocal-like phrasing—was inseparable from Lucille. The guitar’s consistent tone helped cement his identity.”
His distinctive style influenced generations of musicians, from Jimi Hendrix to Eric Clapton, while his collaborations spanned across genres with artists “from Stevie Wonder to Etta James to U2.”
Something Special in the Works

Though no film has yet honored King’s extraordinary journey, that’s about to change. Blexmedia reports
“Canton Entertainment is bringing the blues to the big screen with Lucille, the first authorized feature film chronicling the life, music, and legacy of B.B. King—and his legendary Gibson guitar, Lucille.”
The stage is set for what promises to be a magnificent tribute to the blues legend’s remarkable life.
Lucille
Fittingly, the film bears the name of King’s iconic guitar, “Lucille.” Like most musical biopics, the narrative follows a familiar arc—chronicling the bluesman’s rise from humble beginnings to legendary status. According to Blexmedia,
“Lucille will trace King’s remarkable journey from Mississippi cotton fields to worldwide fame, highlighting his groundbreaking collaborations with Eric Clapton, U2, The Rolling Stones, Carlos Santana, Richie Sambora, and other music luminaries.”
Not Just Any Biopic
Dorothy Canton, who is president of production of Canton Entertainment alongside Father/CEO, Mark Canton, emphasizes that this project transcends the typical biographical film. As Canton is quoted in Blexmedia,
“Lucille is more than a biopic—it’s a tribute to every kid who ever found hope in music. It is an honor to help bring this extraordinary story, and the profound bond between B.B. and Lucille, to audiences everywhere.”
A Promise to King
Perhaps most compelling is the film’s origin as a deathbed promise. Vassal Benford, working alongside King’s estate, has publicly committed to honoring the blues legend’s legacy. Benford recently reflected on his 2014 pledge to King. As cited in Blexmedia per Benford,
“We would tell his truth with the same perfection he demanded every time he held Lucille. With Dorothy, Mark, Raphael, and Damione, that promise is now becoming a major motion picture of the highest caliber.”
This personal connection reassures fans that King’s story rests in reverent hands.
More to Come
While details about casting and the production timeline remain under wraps, developments will likely emerge in the coming months. This project certainly merits attention as a potential must-see film.
