Judges cite violation of appointment rules; Habba blames ‘politicized left’ for obstruction.

Alina Habba stepped down Monday as acting U.S. attorney for New Jersey after multiple federal court rulings found she was serving illegally in the role.
“While I was focused on delivering real results, judges in my state took advantage of a flawed blue slip tradition and became weapons for the politicized left,” she said in a post on X. “For months, these judges stopped conducting trials and entering sentences, leaving violent criminals on the streets.”
Habba added that her decision was made “to protect the stability and integrity of the office which I love” following the Third Circuit’s ruling that invalidated her temporary appointment.
“Make no mistake, you can take the girl out of New Jersey but you cannot take New Jersey out of the girl,” she wrote.
Habba, who previously represented President Donald Trump as personal attorney, was appointed earlier this year under a temporary designation that bypassed Senate confirmation. Her resignation ends months of legal disputes and procedural gridlock that left several major prosecutions in limbo within the District of New Jersey.
