President Donald Trump has rescinded federal fuel economy and automotive regulations, saying the move will lower car prices and end what he called the “Green New Scam.”

President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order repealing Biden-era fuel efficiency standards and other environmental restrictions on automakers, marking a major reversal of the previous administration’s climate and energy policies.
“Today, we’re taking one more step to kill the ‘Green New Scam,’” Trump said, referring to the Green New Deal-style initiatives promoted by progressive Democrats.
The order eliminates a series of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) rules that had required automakers to meet increasingly stringent fuel economy targets through costly vehicle technologies. Trump said those mandates “imposed expensive restrictions and all sorts of problems,” driving up the cost of new cars.
“They forced automakers to build cars using expensive tech that drove up prices and made the car worse,” he continued.
According to the administration, the rollback is expected to reduce manufacturing costs and save consumers about $1,000 per vehicle. The order also directs agencies to review all pending emissions and energy-efficiency regulations for repeal or modification within 90 days.
The move is part of Trump’s broader effort to dismantle key components of the Biden-era environmental agenda, emphasizing energy independence and consumer affordability over emissions targets.
