The celebrity couple, who relocated to Britain’s Cotswolds region after Donald Trump’s election, are said to be heading home for the holidays and “missing the California sunshine.”

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are reportedly preparing to leave the United Kingdom and return to California, marking a reversal from their much-publicized departure following President Donald Trump’s election victory last year.
The pair, who settled in the Cotswolds countryside after saying they needed distance from U.S. politics, are now said to be planning an extended stay back in America. Friends of the couple told the Daily Mail that the move is largely driven by the cold British winter and de Rossi’s renewed interest in acting.
“She’s been telling friends they are coming home soon because they miss them and can’t take the winters over there, and Portia wants to act again,” one source said. “They will be here for the holidays and longer by the sound of it.” Another friend added that “Ellen was very clear that they’re coming back to California sooner rather than later. They miss the warm weather and their friends.”
De Rossi, best known for her roles in Scream 2, Arrested Development, and Ally McBeal, has not acted since Arrested Development ended in 2019. Her return to Los Angeles is reportedly fueling speculation that she may reenter the entertainment industry after several years away from the screen.
DeGeneres, who ended her long-running talk show in 2021 following declining ratings and accusations of workplace misconduct, has spent the past two years downsizing her U.S. real estate portfolio. She sold her Montecito mansion for nearly $30 million and listed another California property for just under $5 million.
The couple also sold Kitesbridge Farm, their £22.5 million estate in Swinbrook, Oxfordshire—their first U.K. home after relocating overseas.
While DeGeneres had previously claimed she would remain in Britain until Trump left office, her plans appear to have shifted. According to sources close to the comedian, she and de Rossi are now “ready to come home” to California, where they intend to spend the holidays surrounded by friends—and, as one insider put it, “far from the frost.”
