Washington, D.C. The United States and Germany held high-level discussions on ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, according to a statement from the U.S. State Department .
Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the conversation took place between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. During the call, the two officials reviewed current international efforts aimed at reaching a resolution to the conflict, which has continued to destabilize the region and strain global security.
According to the State Department, Secretary Rubio reaffirmed the United States’ position that its goal is to bring the conflict to an end “as soon as possible” while ensuring that any agreement leads to a “lasting and durable peace.”
The call reflects broader U.S.–German coordination as both countries continue supporting Ukraine diplomatically, militarily, and economically. Officials say the two nations remain aligned on accelerating efforts to push for negotiations that protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and long-term security.
No additional details were released about specific steps discussed during the conversation, but the State Department emphasized that Washington and Berlin will continue working closely together as part of the wider international effort to end the war.
