During Clemson University’s graduation ceremony on May 8, 2025, a touching and unforgettable moment unfolded on stage — one that perfectly captured the joy of achievement, the love of a father, and the spirit of the Clemson community.

As graduates of the ClemsonLIFE program — an initiative designed for students with intellectual disabilities — proudly crossed the stage to receive their certificates, one student stood out in a particularly special way. Grace Clements, the youngest daughter of Clemson University President Jim Clements, was among the graduates. And when it came time for her moment on stage, she made it one to remember.

Beaming with excitement, Grace ran across the stage toward her father. In a video shared on President Clements’ Instagram, the young graduate — affectionately nicknamed “Amazing Grace” by her dad — leapt into his arms with such enthusiasm that both of them toppled to the ground in front of a cheering crowd.

“It was pure joy, total and complete happiness, to see this girl, our beautiful daughter, run across the stage and literally leap into my arms,” President Clements said during a family interview on TODAY. “It was magical.”

Grace, with a smile, reminded him, “You missed me!”

“I did miss you,” he replied with a laugh. “But then when we fell, we helped each other up. I wanted to turn her to the audience and let everyone see how beautiful and amazing she is. Then, I wanted to give her a big hug to let her know how much I love her.”

The Instagram caption summed up the light-hearted moment perfectly: “ClemsonLIFE teaches independence, job skills… and apparently, how to sack a university president.”

“This was a daddy/daughter moment, not her and the president,” one comment read. “I love how he went with it and how proud he is!”

Others shared how deeply moved they were:
 “Who is cutting onions?”
“This might be one of my all-time favorite moments in history!”
“The energy in this video is so wonderful.”

Grace’s graduation marks more than just a personal milestone. It also shines a light on the impact of the ClemsonLIFE program, which offers students with intellectual disabilities a collegiate experience focused on independence, career readiness, and life skills.

The program blends academics, job training, and social development, creating an inclusive environment where students can grow into self-sufficient adults. According to Clemson University, this approach empowers students to lead fulfilling, independent lives.

A university spokesperson shared with TODAY.com, “The program not only changes lives but also enriches the entire Clemson Family with its spirit of compassion, empowerment, and celebration. Every milestone — whether it’s on-the-job training, having fun at a tailgate, or mastering a new life skill — is a testament to what’s possible when opportunity and support meet the drive to succeed.”

They continued, “For all of our Clemson students, graduation is a new beginning. And seeing Grace embrace her dad — our University President — embodied the moment of exhilaration felt by each of our 5,270 new Clemson alums as they begin the next chapter of their lives.”

In that brief fall, Grace and her father gave the world a glimpse of true love and pride. This wasn’t just a graduation—it was a celebration of inclusion, progress, and the joy of family. A joy so powerful, it knocked them off their feet.
