A couple passionate about aviation recently took their love for planes to new heights by spending the night inside a retired Boeing 747 that has been turned into a hotel. Not only did they stay at the iconic Jumbo Jet Hotel at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, but they also slept in the cockpit, an experience they described as "amazing" and "beyond expectations."

A Unique Stay in a Legendary Aircraft

Annabelle Green, 20, a student from Daventry, Northamptonshire, and her boyfriend Joel Simons, 21, are avid plane spotters who never miss an opportunity to watch aircraft take off and land. When Joel discovered the Jumbo Jet Hotel while researching places to stay during their weekend in Stockholm last November, it was a dream come true.

"The whole experience definitely exceeded our expectations," Annabelle said. "As people interested in planes, it was just exciting to even get to see inside a Boeing 747 because they're so rarely used for passengers these days."

The Jumbo Jet Hotel consists of a retired Boeing 747 permanently stationed on the airport tarmac. It houses 14 rooms and dorms, with prices starting at £70 for basic rooms. Premium suites, like the cockpit, can cost upwards of £200 per night.

For their stay, Annabelle and Joel splurged on the best room in the hotel—the cockpit suite. This exclusive booking gave them the once-in-a-lifetime experience of sleeping where pilots once commanded flights and granted them access to the first-class cabin.

"Getting to sleep in the cockpit was great," Annabelle said. "They still had all the buttons and switches from where the pilots would fly the plane."

Adding to the experience, the couple had access to the aircraft’s wing, where they stood and watched real planes taxiing along the tarmac.

Aviation Lovers’ Dream Date

Annabelle and Joel met online nine months ago and instantly connected over their shared love of travel. Their usual dates include picnics near airports, watching flights take off—a hobby that made their 747 stay feel like the ultimate upgrade.

"It was like a totally upgraded version of our usual dates sitting in a park watching the planes take off," Annabelle said.
