The Lowy Institute's latest poll has found Australians' trust in the US has hit a record low, with just 31 per cent of respondents believing it would 'act responsibly in the world'.
Foreign Affairs reporter Stephen Dziedzic explains that attitudes towards China are warming, with 61 per cent of those polled saying they see China more as an economic partner than as a security threat.
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney inspired more confidence than any other world leader with 66 per cent expressing confidence in him, just ahead of New Zealand's Christopher Luxon.
