There are several tools that parents could use while homeschooling their kids in order to teach them addition and subtraction in a easier way. These different math resources manage to turn the whole lesson into more of an interesting and fun one for the kid.
The first tool is the blank number line. The blank number line is easy to use because it makes jumping on the numbers to make the calculation a lot easier and at the same time the kid will be recording down what he/she is doing in some way. This blank number line could be used with both addition and subtraction, the kid should just choose the right number to write down and start counting back or front from it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn2YBpCIzis).
The second tool to use with teaching kids addition and subtraction is the magnetic numbers. These are usually bought anywhere and they are useful games to get for your child because they will learn something from. Magnetic numbers could be used through saying a specific equation out loud while asking the kids to write it down through using these magnetic numbers or else write down an equation in the form of small shapes and asking the child to translate it into a number equation with the magnetic numbers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eINkXkMo5fU).
The third tool used in learning the different mathematical operations is the hand and the fingers. Kids always depend on their fingers and counting on them through one way or the other and this is one of the tools that we are even suggesting for the good results they bring. Ask your child to count 1+1 on their fingers and tell you the final answer on their fingers. It is better if the kid learn to show on finger on each hand (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jkrRRXgFq8).
The fourth tool which parents could depend and use while homeschooling their kids is the number fan. You could create those number fans all by yourself at home and you could even buy them ready made. With using the number fans, you could ask your child to show you a specific number on those fans or even ask them a mathematical question and ask them to show you the final answer on the fan as well.
The fifth tool in this list is about the number cards, which is one of the most famous and one that is used with kids all the time. Number cards is all about writing the numbers in card looking boxes or even have those paper cards with the numbers written on them and placing those cards while forming the equation instead of just writing these numbers down. Number cards could be also used in the same way as the number fan by asking the child to bring the numbers out and write the answer for the equation they will be asked to solve.
The last method or tool which we would recommend for parents homeschooling their kids is the whiteboard, this is actually the most basic and the one used in every single home out there. On the white board kids could write anything and write whatever they please and also solve the equations and calculations which the parents give them. One of the good things related to the white board is the fact that it could be taken almost anywhere - those small sized ones - and play with the kids in an educational manner.
Addition and subtraction could be taught to the kids through games, puzzles, tricks, tools and they will all work with them because they are different than the ordinary known techniques and strategies which are always depended on; they will be playing, solving riddles, dealing with puzzles, etc. and that's what kids love to do in general.
These are the five different tools we recommend parents to use while homeschooling their kids and planning to teach them addition and subtraction through some thoughtful methods that would turn the lesson into a funnier one.
