What is phonics? Phonics is the process of pronouncing the words correctly when it comes to the sounds every single letter produce. Phonics is just a part of the English alphabet letters' educational class that the kids are introduced to at the beginning of the journey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UGSFKYDRyc).
Phonics is sometimes taught to the kids earlier than even letting them recognize the letters themselves, so never worry when you find your child making the sounds but failing to recognize specific letters.
This phonics lesson is delivered through playing a game with the kids in order to make sure whether they could differentiate between the sounds or not, and at the same time give them the chance to recognize the sound of a specific letter when placed within a complete word.
This educational game is interesting, the parent will create a grid and write different letters in every single box and ask the child to make the phonetic sound that every single letter produces. While giving the kids the chance to make the sounds of the letters, parents could also ask them what is the letter they are making the sound for is. This will help the child to recognize the English alphabet letters, but it is acceptable for the kids to know the sounds and not know the letters themselves at the beginning if they are still starting their educational journey related to the alphabet letters.
After the kids recognize the sounds of the letters, the next part of the game is bringing different objects - toys, fruits, etc. - and choosing one then asking the child on which box on the grid it should be placed. Sometimes choosing an object that is not there is important because it will be challenging for the kids to find out that it is not there. The game could go the other way around and the parent could ask the child to bring out from the box of objects something that would start with one of the letters found in the grid (the parent will be the one choosing a letter).
Sometimes it could get a little bit challenging for the child and even hard, and that is when the parent should help ,for example by choosing two different objects and then asking the child which one represents the letter they are pointing at. This will make it easier for the child to get the right answer.
Parents should never worry when the child provides a wrong answer or fails to find the right one all by themselves, because kids are still taking their first steps in learning the English alphabet letters and they might sometimes get confused when they have to link between the sound of the letter and its sound when it is placed in a word.
The journey of learning phonics goes through different steps, it starts with understanding what phonics is in the first place and then it goes to teaching the kids decoding and how to bring out the sounds of the letters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LWCkpSV6BI) and then the part of blending those letters and their sounds together to form a word comes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZ5icwjFri4).
There are different games played for the sake of teaching kids phonics and how to spell the words correctly, it could be playing the XO with words instead of just using the letters (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DO_qeSroDs) which will also teach the kids to write down the words correctly through practicing. There is also some other phonics games which the kids could learn to pronounce the letters correctly and bring out the right sounds through (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vk4W7Vjqmx4).
This is a part of teaching the kids phonics through matching games. Enjoy this educational video with your child and let us hear back from you about how effective it turned out to be for both of you; the parent who was teaching and the kid who was receiving the lesson.
