Math for kids could be taught through several ways and using Lego as a resource is one of these different methods. Lego is a successful resource to depend on when it comes to math for kids and not just that, but it could be actually used as a method to teach kids the English alphabet letters.
Since we are talking about math, number line is one of the effective methods that are used to let the kids count on it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn2YBpCIzis). This educational video is about using Lego blocks through creating the number line on which the kids could count the numbers.
Counting is one of the mathematical languages that kids come to learn and using number lines is one of the effective ways that could let the kids practice to count correctly. The whole idea behind this video is to use the dice in order to jump with the figures and learn to count. The needed objects in this game is the clear Lego board, the different figures, the dice and the Lego blocks.
While playing with the kids any of the different games through which they are going to learn a mathematical lesson, it is important to use the mathematical vocabulary such as before, after, minus, plus and all these words that are used in order to help the kids understand math from all the different corners and understand the lessons correctly.
These lessons are different and there are different games that could depend on the same objects used here, one might be about counting through moving the characters forward while counting, the lesson could be about teaching them how to subtract by asking the kid to solve a specific equation that the parents offer and do it through jumping on the number line (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reDo59ACevE), and it could be about addition and knowing how to add correctly.
These number lines usually have the numbers written on them to make it easier for the child to count, but if the parent wants to make it trickier, he/she could turn the numbers on the other side in order to test the child's ability to count the numbers without having to see them in front of him/her. This will actually be a bit like a challenge and that's exactly how the kid will love to do it because they love when they fulfill the challenges they face.
It is important to deliver the meaning correctly to the kids, if you are subtracting then they have to know that subtracting is the same as taking away and this means that they should move the objects backwards to find the right answer and at the same time understand that subtraction is like moving in reverse. This is the same with addition, kids should know that adding is the same as moving forward with the objects (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSPZpOB5TIY).
As much as being creative with the different methods that are used in teaching the kids math is important, it is also important that the parents keep making sure every now and then that the kids recognize these numbers when they are written on a piece of paper and should be also able to write them down themselves (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ra-AlaLIUtA).
Part of this lesson is asking the kids to solve the mathematical problems and equations which the parent will write it down for them on a piece of paper. All what the kid will do is depend on the Lego number line which they have created and solve this mathematical equation on it through counting with the character and then going back to the piece of paper in order write down the solution or the answer. This will help the kid to keep recognizing the numbers and how they are supposed to be written correctly.
This is one of the interesting and challenging ways used in teaching the kids math and the different mathematical operations related to it, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Try it with your kids and you will find them getting excited and even asking you to repeat the game for them to get used to it all.
