Addition for kids can be made fun with games and these not only make learning fun but help to make their understanding easier.
With mathematics, addition for kids is the first step in the ladder of learning, it comes just after the kids learn the numbers and start knowing how to count (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5gutmYmsaA). As much as knowing how to add and get the result of any mathematical equation or problem found out is important, it is also important to teach the kids to use their minds in dealing with any mathematical equation given to them and know whether this answer is right or wrong.
In this lesson on addition for kids, Michelle was trying to share one idea that parents could use while homeschooling their kids, or teachers could use while teaching their students, this technique is all about using puppets in saying right or wrong through some voices which parents or teachers have agreed upon before starting the whole game.
The idea behind using puppets is trying to depend on something that would give the kids the feeling that they are interacting with other creatures and give them the feeling that they are not thinking alone - it makes them more interested in the lessons they are taking and the math games they are playing.
The first step in this game is thinking about the mathematical question that you are going to ask the kids, the difficulty of the question will depend on the age of the kids and the level they have reached in maths in general. The second step will be deciding on the sounds or gestures which the kids will do with the puppets as a sign of being a right answer and that other sound which is the sign of being a wrong one. The final step in this game is letting the kids take their time while thinking about the equation in front of them and giving the right answer if the one in front of them is not and at the same time say the reason behind why it is considered wrong in the first place.
If the puppets are considered expensive or you don't know from where you are supposed to buy them, they could be easily done with socks for example, so don't worry, there is always a solution for everything you want to use out there.
Addition is the easiest when it comes to the operations related to maths for kids and that is the main reason why they usually learn at the beginning when they are still taking the initial steps in math (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdux-Xn35qE).
There are different ideas for the games that kids could play in order to learn math and learn how to add (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkqMQJMtCrQ), some of these games are with play-doh (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06BSCCDb2rw), there are those games with Lego (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLfSeSHWE78) and the ideas could even get more interesting than that with using building blocks, cartoon characters and the other games which the kids usually love to play with (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQxUX7XZmGw).
After the addition, there are other steps to be taken, such as learning how to subtract (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdlIHYRnjAg), learning how to multiply (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKom4XkX7-8) and knowing more about division and its rules (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVM8iQMaZN8).
Homeschooling is important and parents should know the right ways for doing it and the different teaching methods which they can follow or learn more about. It is not just about math, but there is also English, crafts and cooking, and Learningmole helps parents and teachers by providing ideas to make the learning process much more exciting and encourage children to think, play and find answers.
Always keep in mind that playing with your kids is one effective way, it makes them feel that you are not just there to place your questions, but you are there to give answers. Test your kids by giving the wrong answer and see if they correct you.
