The True Story of Ealhswith | The Last Kingdom

Many of us have met Ealhswith in the Last Kingdom, but today I will be telling you about her real life according to the sources. Ealhswith was the wife of Alfred the Great for over thirty years yet we know so little about her. She is a very mysterious figure in English History and she was never actually crowned Queen and was the consort of Alfred. She would live during the late 9th century when England was still several different Kingdoms. It was a time where the Vikings had decimated most of the Anglo-Saxons Kingdoms as the sons of Ragnar were conquering and burning their way through the land. Ealswith would endure much hardship during her life as it was a time of uncertainty where the Northmen were ceremonially killing Kings which would affect Ealswith’s life directly. This is her story.
