The federal government has ordered an audit of the Indigenous languages office after several former employees reportedly complained about funds being misspent. The organization was created in 2021 with a mandate to prevent the loss of about 70 Indigenous languages in Canada.

Former staff allege the funds were spent on a four-day summit in Ottawa last year that cost $10 million; the equivalent of the entire annual operating budget.
