They Picked on Him for Being Different – Then This Song Changed Everything!

At 21 years old, the saxophonist from Atlanta stepped onto the AGT Season 17 stage and opened up about being bullied growing up because of his voice and appearance. Avery was born prematurely, weighing just 1 pound 8 ounces, and said music became the thing that helped him through everything. Then he picked up his saxophone and completely changed the energy in the room.

His performance of “Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding had the judges and audience on their feet, but it was host Terry Crews who was especially moved by Avery’s story and talent. By the end of the audition, Terry hit the Golden Buzzer, sending Avery straight through to the live shows and giving AGT 2022 one of its most emotional auditions of the season.
