This House Refuses to Look Back
This house makes one clear move, it closes itself on one side and opens completely to the mountains on the other.
GM House, by Frederico Bicalho Arquitetura, is built on a steep site in Serra dos Manacás, Brazil.
Instead of opening in every direction, the design chooses carefully. Toward the higher side of the lot, the house becomes more closed, protected, and controlled. Toward the valley, it opens to the mountains, natural ventilation, light, and the horizon. The arrival happens over a reflecting pool. The social spaces sit on the middle level. The bedrooms rise above, connected by a walkway and oriented toward the view.
Concrete, stone, black flamed granite, cementitious porcelain tile, wood, glass, and water all work together to create a house shaped by direction, privacy, and landscape.
A house that does not open by accident. It chooses where to look.
