This House Is Split Into Two Hulls Above the Rocks
This house looks like two boat hulls left on the edge of the coast, suspended above the landscape, facing the ocean.
Two Hulls, by Mackay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects, is organized as two separate pavilions on the coast of Nova Scotia, Canada.
One volume is for daytime living, the other is for bedrooms and privacy. Between them, the house creates protected outdoor spaces, while the ocean-facing sides open toward the horizon.
Wood, steel, concrete, balconies, fireplaces, and cantilevered volumes all work together to create a house shaped by the harsh coastal climate.
It is not just a house with a view. It is a house built like an instrument for watching the sea.
