Inside The Historic Paisley Ontario Stark House Before Renovation
I was given exclusive access to explore, photograph, and document the historic Stark House in Paisley, Ontario, just one week before a full restoration begins.
For more than 150 years, this farmhouse was home to the Stark family, one of the most influential industrial families in Paisley’s history. Overlooking the Teeswater River and the historic Paisley Mill, the property witnessed generations of farming, milling, floods, fires, and the rise and decline of rural Ontario industry.
In this video, we explore the abandoned Stark House, the surrounding property, and the stories connected to the family who lived here for generations. Using historical interviews, documented local history, and firsthand access provided by the new owners, this episode uncovers the real history behind one of Ontario’s most fascinating surviving rural properties.
You’ll hear the true story of:
• The Stark family and their connection to Paisley Ontario
• The historic water-powered Paisley Mill
• The devastating barn fire of the 1930s
• The 1929 flood that destroyed the Stark sawmill
• Rural Ontario farming and milling history
• The future restoration plans for the Stark House
• How the original artifacts and contents of the home will be preserved and reused during the renovation
The new owners of the property are currently restoring both the Paisley Mill and Stark House, reconnecting two historic sites that once operated together for generations.
You can now book stays, retreats, and excursions at the restored Paisley Mill, and follow along with the ongoing Stark House restoration at: www.Paisleymill.ca
