The Ballet of Shadows is one of the first works composed by Hector Berlioz along with the Eight Scenes from Faust after Goethe's Faust. Composed in 1829, it was published as op. 2. Withdrawn from the catalogue of his works, transposed and orchestrated, the Ballet of Shadows is integrated into the Roman Carnival scene of Benvenuto Cellini and then, definitively and without words, into the Queen Mab Scherzo in Romeo and Juliet.
Hector Berlioz undertook the composition of the Ballet des ombres between the end of April and the beginning of September 1829
