This is a silent hiking documentary of my first ever solo hike, which I did in the Pyrenees in September 2024.

9 days alone through the Haute Pyrénées – via France and Spain, 75 km and 9500 m of elevation gain.

After finishing my PhD in 2024, I wanted a full reset and to hide somewhere in the wild. The Pyrenees were my choice (two weeks later, I set off for Tour du Mont Blanc: • Very Few Do It in October – 14 Days of Sil... ).

I had a very ambitious plan for this hike to climb two prominent peaks: Vignemale and Monte Perdido. I was somehow attracted by their beauty. I didn't have much experience in climbing or planning such a trip. But the Pyrenees instantly showed their character: relentless rain and rough terrain. It seemed like I was not walking, but crawling through these mountains. At the same time, I was filming myself (for the first time), which added complexity to the journey.
I knew so little about these places that it required a second attempt in 2025 to finally reach both summits!

Hope you enjoy this film and appreciate the silence and beauty of this mountain range.

45:03 Outro and photos

Most of the photos in the Outro were taken with my film camera.

I wasn't aware wild camping was prohibited in the Monte Perdido area. On the second night in the area, I couldn't reach Refugio de Góriz due to bad weather and had to pitch my tent where I was for safety. Please do not follow my example and plan your stay at Refugio de Góriz (camping sites are available there for a reasonable price, nice beer and a view is guaranteed).
