City Cabin by Olson Kundig is a 2,400-square-foot home in Seattle designed as a private urban retreat connected to nature. Positioned in the lot’s northwest corner, the house maximizes garden areas and natural light through a staggered layout, offering garden views from every room. Aiming for net-zero energy, it incorporates sustainable features like solar panels and an air-to-water heat pump. Organized around a central gathering space with two wings, the home balances openness and privacy, highlighted by a 16-foot ceiling and expansive windows. Materials, chosen for sustainability and influenced by the owner’s Native American art collection, include red-tinted concrete floors, natural plywood, and reclaimed fir siding that develops a natural patina. With its green roof and eco-conscious design, City Cabin exemplifies harmony with nature in an urban setting.
