The FIRST Laws | Code of Hammurabi | Primary Source Immersive Reading
The Code of Hammurabi is a collection of 282 legal rules that were written in ancient Babylon around 1755-1750 BC. It was created to establish standards for commercial transactions and to provide a system for administering justice through the imposition of fines and punishments. The code was inscribed on a large, black stone pillar in the shape of a finger, which was later taken by invaders and rediscovered in 1901.
