CHARMING Indian APARTMENT Tour in Lake Gardens | Kolkata, India
My second trip to India in November of 2018 is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life. This country is so beautiful and is alive and buzzing with culture, history, and some of the finest cuisine in the world. After we made a hasty and early exit from Chennai due to an approaching tropical cyclone, we had an extra, unplanned day to explore Kolkata instead. Before we headed out to see what we could do on short notice, I decided to give you guys a tour of our Airbnb in Kolkata. Come along as I show you everything it has to offer!

This apartment was one of the nicest I booked on Airbnb. It’s a charming, 2-bedroom apartment in a beautiful building in the Lake Gardens neighborhood in the southern part of the city.
Every apartment building in the area has a locked gate out front and ours was no exception. Inside the gate is a car park, where you can park if you happen to arrive by car. There is no elevator, so you’ll have to drag your luggage up the narrow staircase. In our case, that meant lugging our bags up to the fourth floor, which is also the top floor.
This place is super secure, with the gate outside, plus a door you have to unlock on the fourth floor. Beyond that door is another gate you have to unlock before you can get inside the unit.
Through the gate is the living room/dining room, which has a colorful couch, coffee table, dining room table, refrigerator, and a vanity full of dishes and coffee mugs. The refrigerator was stocked with some fruit, eggs, crackers, and honey. There is a lot of natural lighting that comes through the windows, so much so that you don’t need to have the lights on during the day. Off the living room is a nice office space with a desk, bookshelf, a painting on the wall, and an old-school boombox.
Just off the dining room is a small, old-school kitchen that is fully equipped with everything you’d need, including a sink, toaster, toaster oven, fresh water, coffee and tea, a stovetop, pots and pans, and a cafetera.
Down the hall off the living room area is a mirror and the second bedroom, which contains two twin beds, a small bedside table between them, a ceiling fan, an air-conditioning unit, and lots of closet space. Off the bedroom is a standard Indian bathroom with a shower, toilet, sink, and water heater, but this one has a four-inch raised divider on the floor that separates the shower from the rest of the room so the water from the shower doesn’t spread all over the bathroom floor, as well as a shower curtain.
Next is the master bathroom, which has been updated since the apartment was originally built, and has white marble walls, a nice sink and toilet, a water heater, and a divider and curtain that separates the shower from the rest of the room.
There is also a curtain across the doorframe of the master bedroom, and inside there is lots of closet space for all of your clothes, a small table, and a queen-sized bed with a small bedside table on each side. Off the master bedroom is the apartment’s best feature: a barred-in terrace with a terrific view of the Lake Gardens neighborhood!
I highly recommend this Airbnb if you come to Kolkata. The host is great and helped me bring my massive Victorinox luggage upstairs and provided us with food, fresh towels, extra blankets and pillows.
