With social distancing and stay-at-home orders in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to do something special. Because I can’t travel to other countries right now, I figured it would be fun to bring one of my favorite countries to me! Come along with me as I grab some Indian vegetarian food take out and enjoy a delicious Indian feast with the love of my life, Ana Hoffmann!

I headed out to my favorite local Indian restaurant, Bollywood Masala to grab some aloo samosa, dal, veg korma, papdi chaat, dahi puri, eggplant makhani, and paneer makhani!

We quickly headed out to get our order and came back home. There, we put everything into bowls. The dishes contained lots of fresh herbs and looked really good.

We started with the lassis, which were nice and refreshing. Then, we dove into the dahi puri, which is a crispy puff ball with sev, yogurt, and several other things inside. They’re so good! We fed each other a couple. It contained tamarind chutney, sev, coriander, parsley, and red onions.

Next was the aloo samosa with mint chutney. They’re basically fried pastries with potatoes and curry inside. It was so good. They could be a meal! And like with all Indian food, it’s all about the chutney!

Then, we grabbed some papdi chaat, which is a street food dish made with fried dough wafers called papdi, chickpeas, potatoes, dahi, tamarind chutney, and sev. It’s like Indian nachos. The sweetness of the tamarind chutney is amazing. It’s the best veg food on the planet! I love to use my hands to eat it!

Then, we went with the rice, which contains cardamom. Ana tried it with some eggplant makhani and veg korma. I got the saag paneer, and paneer makhani. I started with the paneer makhana, which had a rich, red sauce on it and contained Kashmiri chilies.

The eggplant makhani was really sweet, while my paneer makhani was really sweet and not spicy at all. It was so creamy. The veg korma was even sweeter!

Then, we got a paratha, one of the first dishes I ever tried in India. I tried it in Chandni Chowk in Delhi in a small alleyway. It was the best paratha of my life! I grabbed some of the food with the paratha. It was so good! The best thing to do is to just dig in with it and soak up as much of the sauces as possible.

Mixing everything was really nice. The sauce on the paneer makhani had the most incredible sauce. Then, I grabbed some veg korma, which was super creamy and filled with huge pieces of broccoli, and the eggplant makhani. The eggplant was a little spicy and creamy with nice chunks of eggplant! While we ate, I talked a bit about my travel plans post-coronavirus, like Bangladesh and Nepal.

Then, we went for the dal. We only had a bit because we were starting to get full. Everything was too good! The dal was light and super good. Then, I went for the veg korma. The broccoli was nice and creamy and super sweet! This meal was phenomenal!

I got some more rice to mix with the korma sauce. The seven dishes have huge portions and a meal like this could easily feed three people.

Of all the dishes, my favorite was the dahi puri and I also loved the eggplant and the papdi chaat. Ana’s favorite was the papdi chaat. I had one last bite of samosa and Ana had one last bite of papdi chaat. They were so moist, they wouldn’t have been good later.

Please support your local communities right now if you can because they’re all hurting. Just be responsible, stay safe, and keep social distancing, and hopefully this will all be behind us soon.

I hope you liked coming along on our Indian vegetarian food take out adventure!
