As you guys know, the COVID-19 pandemic has touched practically every corner of the globe and has infected millions of people. What you probably don’t know is that my wife, Ana, recently tested positive for COVID. Here is my experience getting tested for COVID-19.
The COVID-19 situation in Florida has been really dire, with the number of cases exploding during the summer, including days with as many as 15,000 new cases. My wife and I had been super safe, staying at home, as has the rest of our family. But we got together for a family vacation and afterward, my nephew felt sick and my sister and her husband tested positive.
My entire family got tested and my wife came back positive. But I came back negative somehow. I stopped filming, and it’s now been two weeks since then. I needed to get tested again to make sure I’m still negative. They have 24-hour tests ($250 USD), a home test ($80 per person, 5 day wait to results), or a free test at Marlin’s Park or the Miami Beach Convention Center. You can also make an online appointment at the Youth Fair, which is what I did.
I can’t do anything until I know I’m negative, so I needed to get tested again. Testing sucks, as they have to put the swab all the way up your nose. There was a massive line at the fair, easily 200 cars. I figured I’d be there for hours.
While I waited, I had a Cuban empanada and a Cuban coffee. Then, the line started moving, so it seemed like they were testing people in batches. A cop comes by to make sure everyone in line is alone and is wearing a mask.
I had to fill out some paperwork. As I got closer, I saw people wearing surgical gear. I couldn’t record, but the test was quick but uncomfortable. You practically feel the swab in the back of your throat! The woman did it twice to me. It’s not enjoyable at all! But I’ll get the results in a few days via email.
And that was my COVID-19 test experience!
