Is the one-handed backhand dead?

In modern tennis, the two-handed backhand has become the dominant shot — and for good reason. In this video, I break down why the game has changed so much, why the two-hander now dominates on tour, and whether players should still learn the one-handed backhand today.

We cover the biggest advantages of the two-handed backhand:
• better on the return of serve
• handles fast pace better
• handles high balls better
• more compact
• may create less strain on the body

But this is not a one-handed backhand funeral.

If you already have a strong one-hander, I still believe you should keep it and make it great. I love teaching the one-handed backhand. But if you’re just learning the game, or you’re open to changing, in most cases today you’re probably better off going with a two-handed backhand because of the demands of modern tennis.

In this video I break down:
• why the two-hander took over
• whether the one-hander is still worth keeping
• who should switch
• who should stay with one hand
• what modern tennis rewards most on the backhand side
