Module 3: Communicating Environmental and Health Risks

Module 3 is based on Step 3 in the 5-step Land Reuse Model. It incorporates knowledge checks that reinforce the general learning. Module 3 defines and describes risk communication, including seven cardinal rules, the role of an environmental or health professional, messaging, and message mapping. The module provides resources on each topic for more information. The module concludes with two case examples about risk messaging and message mapping on different contamination scenarios. The module provides additional suggested reading from a supplemental and optional course textbook.
