Juan (Domingo) Moreno y Polo
(La Hoz de la Vieja, 2 February 1711 - Tortosa, 2 June 1776)
Spanish organist and composer. Before the age of ten, he began his musical studies as a member of the children's choir at La Seo Cathedral in Zaragoza, following in the footsteps of his brothers, José and Valero. After receiving holy orders in Zaragoza, he competed for the position of second organist at the cathedral. Despite placing second, notably ahead of Joaquín de Nebra, the position was ultimately awarded to Nebra. On August 3, 1731, at the age of twenty, he was appointed organist of Tortosa Cathedral, serving under the direction of Maestro José Escorihuela. Following Escorihuela's death in 1743, the position of maestro de capilla (choirmaster) was granted to his brother, Valero. During his tenure in Tortosa, he oversaw the renovation of the cathedral's organ. His professional reputation led to his invitation to Valencia in 1761 to serve as a member of a musical examination board. He remained the primary organist in Tortosa until his death. He was succeeded in the post by Joaquín Iturralde, a fellow Aragonese musician from Burbáguena.
