Before sunrise, while the village sleeps, Rafiq climbs 40 feet above the ground with no harness, no safety net — only a rope around his waist and years of experience guiding his hands.

He is a Gachhi — a traditional date palm sap collector in rural Bangladesh. Every winter, thousands of men like him risk their lives climbing tall date palm trees to harvest sweet sap that becomes natural jaggery.

This is not just seasonal work. It is a way of life passed down through generations.

From collecting sap in freezing darkness to boiling it into golden jaggery, from selling in crowded markets to sharing a simple meal with his family — this documentary follows one full day in the life of a Gachhi.

As modernization slowly changes rural traditions, the lives of these men remain undocumented. No official records track their falls. No statistics count their risks. Yet every winter, they climb.

This is the story of hard work, tradition, family, and survival in rural Bangladesh.
