I Want To But 💁 Lucy Glade-Wright's Keynote Run The World 2019, A League Of Extraordinary Women
I want to but… this is something that I hear constantly, from others and from myself. ‘I want to but’ is at the beginning of every great excuse I’ve ever had. Recently I closed my multi-million dollar online retail store and restructured our entire business model to follow my passion and become a creative media company. WTF. I know. It was risky, it was and still is hard work, sacrifices were made and plenty of second guessing was done. Upon pulling the brakes on my business and performing a 180 corner turn Lewis Hamilton would be proud of, I received much admiration for having the courage to do so. Which made me wonder… why are there not more people doing what they really want to do? What’s stopping us all from achieving our goals? Now there can be many answers to that question, after all, each one of us is different and our situation unique. But for me, I know that ‘I want to but’ has been at the beginning of every great excuse I’ve ever had. On the other side of it however is change.
I wanted to explain my reasons for closing the Hunting for George online store, but in order to better understand this I felt it necessary to share my own story. What better opportunity than a room full of women and a couple of cameras pointing in my face… amiright? Recently I had the pleasure of sharing my story at the Run The World Melbourne 2019 event hosted by The League of Extraordinary Women. I was a little apprehensive about sharing personal details of my life and business but I wanted to be honest about how I got here. Who knows where ‘here’ even is, but I’m here and I’m happy. I hope that by making this public and sharing my story then maybe I might inspire someone else to have the courage and give it a go. Whatever their ‘it’ may be.
