Downstream Processing (DSP): Membrane Operations

Continuing with our downstream processing series, Chris Doll from Maverick Separation Solutions talked to the Laney College Biomanufacturing Program about membranes used in filtration for biotech applications. Chris had a long stint working for Alfa Laval before starting his own business advising biotech companies on their downstream processing. He offers training and equipment maintenance on disc-stack centrifuges and tangential flow filtration (TFF) systems. Chris covers basic membrane theory, types of membranes, applications, CIP and storage of membranes, and how to test membrane performance. Chris has experience not only with protein separations common to biotech but also dealcoholizing beer using reverse osmosis or nano-filtration.
