A timeless retreat by the sea, where tradition meets tropical modernism.
Welcome to Vida House, a stunning contemporary residence located in the serene beach town of Troncones, Mexico. Blending regional craftsmanship with thoughtful architecture, this home is a testament to local heritage, open-air living, and the luxury of simplicity.
Design Philosophy:
At the heart of Vida House is a vision to honor the traditional Zihuatanejo style while introducing contemporary spatial openness. The home is structured around a central palapa—a soaring, palm-thatched pavilion that serves as the living and dining core. This volume welcomes coastal breezes, offering a naturally cooled, open-air experience all year round.
Architectural Layout:
Two flanking volumes contain private enclosed spaces: the family room, kitchen, and bedrooms, including a suite on the upper floor and two expansive, double-level suites to the north.
The central palapa acts as the social heart of the home, its high ceiling and breathable materials creating a naturally ventilated haven.
A guest house with its own palapa and a beautiful brick dome ceiling sits quietly within the garden, providing seclusion and comfort.
Outdoor Living:
The terrace, gardens, and stone-lined pool extend the home’s presence into the landscape.
Locally sourced river stones, limestone, parota wood, and palm are skillfully applied by regional artisans, grounding the home in its place.
From the poolside, a trio of manzanillo trees frames the view of the ocean, creating a living postcard that changes with the light of day.
Materiality & Craft:
The house celebrates Mexican craftsmanship at every turn, from the meticulous stonework to the natural timber finishes. The architecture is designed to age beautifully, allowing nature, weather, and time to leave their mark with elegance.
Vida House is not just a home—it’s a lifestyle, embracing the rhythms of the sea, the breeze of the tropics, and the soul of the land.
