Why Did the Brontë Sisters All Die So Young？ The life & death of Emily Brontë ｜ Wuthering Heights

In this video from History Calling, I explore the real lives of Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Brontë. I’ll look at how their harsh upbringing, family tragedies, the Brontë’s life at Haworth Parsonage and the brutal conditions of Victorian England shaped their work and ultimately led not only to their early deaths, but to that of their brother, Branwell Brontë and the forgotten Brontë sisters, Maria and Elizabeth. Along the way, I’ll show you how the Brontë sisters produced immortal literature while living short, often painful lives marked by grief and disease.

In honour of the new movie adaptation of Wuthering Heights starting Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi we will of course look closely at Emily Brontë, who wrote Wuthering Heights and created the characters of Cathy and Heathcliff, two of English literature’s most tragic lovers. Sadly, like them, the author of Wuthering Heights met a tragic end.
