Three amazing Swiss locations in one peaceful walking tour: Sonogno, Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen.
Join me for a slow journey through some of the most beautiful corners of Switzerland – from a hidden Ticino village at the end of a valley to the famous alpine resorts of the Bernese Oberland.

📌 Locations: Sonogno • Grindelwald • Lauterbrunnen • (Switzerland)
Date recorded: June ⛅Weather: 24°C/ 75°F

🏔 Sonogno – End of the Verzasca Valley
Our journey begins in Sonogno, one of the most remote and picturesque villages in Switzerland. Tucked away at the very end of the Verzasca Valley, in Italian-speaking Ticino, Sonogno feels like a place where time has stopped. Its traditional stone houses with flower-filled balconies, narrow cobbled lanes, and the sound of mountain streams create an atmosphere that is pure peace.

Just a short, easy walk from the village you’ll find Cascata La Froda, a beautiful waterfall hidden at the foot of the mountains. It’s an incredibly serene spot, with fresh air, moss-covered rocks, and birdsong all around. Few travelers make it here, so it feels like your own secret discovery.

This valley is also famous for its handmade wool crafts – the village has a small Casa della Lana (House of Wool), where you can see weaving demonstrations and buy traditional products. Stop in one of the rustic grotto restaurants to try Ticino specialties like polenta, local cheeses, chestnut desserts, or honey made right in the valley.

🏞 Grindelwald – The Village Beneath the Eiger
From Ticino we travel north into the heart of the Bernese Alps to Grindelwald, one of the most famous villages in Switzerland. Surrounded by dramatic peaks, with the legendary Eiger North Face towering above, Grindelwald is a dream for mountain lovers. Wooden chalets, flowered balconies, and incredible views in every direction – it’s a place that looks like it stepped out of a postcard.

Grindelwald is known for its scenic trails and mountain activities. You can take the gondola to First Cliff Walk, an adrenaline-filled walkway suspended above the valley, or ride the train up to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe at 3454 m, with views of the Aletsch Glacier and the famous Ice Palace carved deep into the glacier itself.

Even if you just stroll through the village, the combination of cowbells, green pastures, and those enormous mountain walls is unforgettable.

🌟 Lauterbrunnen – The Valley of 72 Waterfalls
We end this long walking journey in Lauterbrunnen, one of the most spectacular valleys in the world. Steep cliffs rise almost vertically on both sides, and waterfalls pour down everywhere you look – there are said to be 72 of them! The Staubbach Falls, dropping almost 300 m beside the village, inspired poets like Goethe.

Inside the mountain, the Trümmelbach Falls thunder through narrow rock tunnels – ten glacier-fed waterfalls hidden in the dark, an experience that you can feel with all your senses.

The valley is also a base for exploring car-free alpine villages like Mürren and Wengen, reachable only by cable car or train. And for thrill-seekers, Lauterbrunnen is the base-jumping capital of Europe. But even if you’re here just to walk, the atmosphere – the sound of waterfalls, the scent of alpine meadows, the echo of cowbells – feels like nowhere else on Earth.
