Most houses rush you through space. Casa Arupo does the opposite.

Located near Quito, Ecuador, this home by Cordada Arquitectura is organized around a central courtyard with a reflecting pool and a living arupo tree — turning light, shade, air, and time into architecture itself. Continuous ramps replace stairs, an inverted roof gathers rain toward the center, and handmade volcanic brick ties the house physically to the Ilaló landscape.

More than a residence, Casa Arupo is a lesson in calm living: accessibility, presence, and connection to nature shape every movement through the home.

If architecture could breathe, this is what it would feel like.
