In Denmark, we go back to 1840, when Christian VIII was the last king to wear a crown. He was anointed as king with Christian V’s crown, which was the crown of the absolute kings. The iconic crown is in the Treasury at Rosenborg Castle together with Denmark’s oldest existing crown, namely Christian IV’s crown from 1596. But what symbolism is there in the figures on the crown – and what is the story behind the precious gemstones?
We visit the Treasury with museum curator Peter Kristiansen and museum director Thomas Thulstrup and learn more about the Danish Crowns.
