Erlington - Child Ballad #8

I think maybe in 2026 I have a real chance of completing all the songs in the first volume of the Francis Child collection:

While this ballad has some similarities with Earl Brand, in this case the challengers are outlaws (not the woman's family), and the protagonist lives.

This is the 'B' variant in Child, attributed to a manuscript owned by Robert White, I assume this Robert White:

As Robert was a poet, there is the chance that this was an 'improvement' of the original text.
