Nottingham, England: A City Forged in History
Nottingham is a city famed for its rich history, abundance of independent businesses, and associations with the legendary Robin Hood. Perfect for a weekend getaway, in this travel guide we’ll detail the very best things to do in Nottingham, including top attractions, hidden gems, and even meeting with some of the locals.
We’ll begin our time in the city in the Lace Market district, an area which was once at the heart of the global lace making trade. Here we’ll head into one of the most unique eateries in Nottingham (housed within a former church) before discovering one of the oldest churches in the city. We’ll then make our way to Sneinton, a vibrant and artistic hub filled with independent sellers. There we’ll meet a plant seller as well as a chocolate maker.
Afterwards we’ll visit one of the only working windmills left in England before meandering along the canal. Close by we’ll check out a rather unique vintage shop before exploring some of the most historic pubs in the city, including Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which claims to be the oldest pub in England! We’ll end our day with a dinner at Pici, a particularly romantic Italian restaurant offering up mouthwatering pasta dishes.
The following day we’ll explore some of Nottingham’s most unique architectural features, including The Exchange. We’ll then head out of the city in order to visit the Attenborough Centre, a former flooded gravel quarry pit which has since been transformed into a haven for wildlife.
