
New Jewellery AKA Remaking Old Jewellery (1961)
Knightsbridge, London.
M/S of several pieces of jewellery laid out on display. C/U of a hand picking through pieces of jewellery in a tray. M/S of two men sat at a desk looking through the jewellery, one of them is smoking a pipe. They are removing stones from pieces of jewellery. C/U of a man's hands as he picks a stone out of a brooch with a pair of pliers. The narrator explains they are working for the London designer Joseph Kutchinsky who breaks down antique jewellery to make new designs. C/U of hands using a pair of tweezers to pick up diamonds and fit them together into a bow shape. L/S of men sat at benches in the workshop. M/S as one man places a brooch on a cloth and picks up some tweezers. C/U as he uses the tweezers to fit the gold and platinum settings for the stones.
M/S as a man uses an eyeglass to look at a piece of jewellery, he then picks up a small blowtorch and solders the brooch. C/U of the brooch being soldered. M/S of a man sat at a polishing machine. C/U as he polishes a red and gold bracelet. M/S of a man dipping a piece of jewellery into a tank of ammonia. C/U of the jewellery in the ammonia, this uses sound waves to clean it without damaging it. The jewellery is lowered in and the tank becomes red. M/S as he lifts it out and dips it in another bath to rinse it.
M/S of model Paula Hayworth sat in front of a red curtain and a flower display, she is wearing £8000 worth of jewellery. C/U as she clips an earring on. She is wearing long black gloves which show off a ring and bracelet she is wearing, all the jewellery is red and green. She also has a brooch pinned to her dress. The camera pans up to show the earring, C/U of the brooch, C/U of the bracelet. M/S of her hand as she opens a gold clutch bag and takes out a very small watch in a jewelled bracelet, the narrator tells us this costs £3650. C/U of the tiny watch face set in the bracelet.
