Pipa and Dizi Duet: Journey Through Mountains and Waters
Composition / Arrangement: Minh Kha
Performed by: Thiên Ân, Nguyễn Hà
This musical piece tells the story of a young scholar on a summer afternoon after the rain has gently ceased. Under the glow of the setting sun, he drifts along the river in a small boat, quietly admiring the surrounding vegetation—lush grasses, flowers, and trees lining the riverbanks. On both sides rise mountains, accompanied by the clear, cheerful songs of birds echoing through the air.
Immersed in this serene and wondrous scene, the scholar is deeply moved by the beauty of nature—an awe-inspiring gift bestowed by the Creator. Standing before such a landscape, he feels as though an ancient memory from a distant past has been awakened within him.
Message of the Work
Laozi once said:
“Man follows the Earth.
The Earth follows Heaven.
Heaven follows the Dao.
The Dao follows Nature.”
This teaching expresses the natural order: humans align with the Earth, the Earth aligns with Heaven, Heaven aligns with the Dao, and the Dao aligns with nature itself.
Mountains and waters are inseparable, like shadow and form. It is through water that mountains shine and come alive, and it is through mountains that the beauty and elegance of water can truly be perceived.
The scholar comes to understand that only by living in harmony with nature can the soul truly connect with all things in the universe. In the end, life itself returns to nature—to reunite with the Creator.
