EDC Advent Calendars Unboxed | Worth It or Gimmick?
In this video, I’m opening and going through two EDC / survival-themed advent calendars, each with 24 individual boxes inside—one item per day if you want to use them as intended.
These calendars typically cost between $13–$15 each, so keep that price point in mind while watching. This isn’t high-end, life-saving gear—but that’s also not really the point.
I’d say about 60–80% of the items are on the gimmicky side, but there are a handful of pieces in each calendar that are genuinely worth keeping or using. Without giving any spoilers, some of the better items included things like:
• Emergency / thermal blankets (always useful in first aid kits)
• Loud safety whistles (great for kids or emergency situations)
• A couple decent-quality fishing lures
• Small gear bags to hold everything from the calendar
Both calendars also include functional compasses, which makes them useful for learning and familiarity—even if they’re not professional-grade.
So who are these for?
These kits are best suited for kids, young teenagers, or anyone just getting into EDC or survival gear. They’re fun to open, easy to understand, and a low-risk way to get familiar with basic items like compasses, utensils, blankets, and small tools.
Is this gear something you’d trust your life with?
No—not for the most part. The materials aren’t premium, and durability is limited. But for learning, experimenting, or light use, they make sense. If something breaks after a few uses, you didn’t lose much.
Bottom line:
These aren’t trash, and they aren’t top-tier either—but for the right audience, they’re fun, reasonably priced, and worth the unboxing.
