My grandfather risked his life to harvest pomegranates and carp in the deadly mountains.
Experience a true autumn day in our remote mountain village of Sim.
Grandpa climbed the steep forest slopes, surrounded by waterfalls and golden trees, to harvest 50 kg of wild pomegranates growing on the cliff edge. On the way back, he also picked persimmons and a fresh fig straight from the tree.
Near a powerful waterfall, he stopped at a small mountain lake and caught large wild carp with a basket-style net. One fish nearly escaped, but he brought back four large carp.
Together with Grandma, they carried the heavy harvests down the narrow forest path. At home, they cut the pomegranates, filled a wood-fired press, and Grandma pressed the juice with her feet. Grandpa collected the pure pomegranate juice in 10-liter bottles, while Grandma made thick doshab syrup.
They fry all the carp at once in a one-meter-long saj pan, pour hot pomegranate juice over the fish, and serve everything beautifully on a long wooden tray with onions, pomegranate seeds, fruit, and persimmons.
This is truly mountain village cooking – simple, hardworking, beautiful, and authentic.
