The String Quintet in B flat major, Op. 39 No. 1, G 337, was composed by Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) in Madrid, the city where he lived for many years. It is one of the few quintets in which he clearly specifies the inclusion of a double bass instead of a second cello, a very original scoring of his time.
