Vanity Fair (Remake) | Final Video Project | Group 4 - Shift 2
Among the timeless classics of English literature, Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray stands out for its sharp portrayal of a society obsessed with status, power, and recognition.
Our group was deeply inspired by the author’s insight into this shallow world, one that mirrors many of today’s realities. Becky Sharp, the story’s central figure, embodies the struggle of those from humble beginnings who strive to climb the social ladder. Yet, Thackeray’s brilliance lies in presenting her not as a heroine or a victim, but as a complex, real human being - intelligent, ambitious, and flawed.
In our modern remake, Becky becomes a rising TikToker chasing fame and validation in the digital era. Through her journey from ambition to disillusion, we explore how the same vanity of Thackeray’s world still exists behind screens today.
This short film invites viewers to reflect on the cost of success and the true meaning of happiness in an age defined by followers, trends, and fleeting fame.
