Lions, especially lionesses, are apex predators in the African savanna. They often hunt in groups but can also hunt alone. Giraffes, while large and strong, are vulnerable as calves. A baby giraffe (also called a calf) is especially at risk during its first few months of life. Lionesses tend to target young or weak animals because they are easier to take down than adult giraffes, which can be dangerous due to their powerful kicks.
