The Castellows - Cowboy Kind of Love, Antone's Nightclub, Austin, Texas
Cowboy Kind of Love is a sweet song from @thecastellows debut EP A Little Goes Long Way. It was written by the Balkcom sisters Ellie, Powell and Lily as well as Parker Welling and Chris Lacorte - so says my CD liner notes. Oh and BTW it is "Eleanor" on the liner credits, not Ellie. More trivia - I have seen the Powell's given name is Constance in some writing credits (Constance Powell Balkcom). Now I don't know if Lily's full name is Lillian and if Lily is an abbreviation... I think it's Lily. BTW I had a GF named Lillian in high school but everyone called her "Bea" so go figure! And everyone knew her as Nancy (not really ... just a White Album reference from Rocky Raccoon there).
Back to this song / show / performance - all great great great IMHO. The show was September 13, 2025 - the first of a new headlining tour. Antone's Nightclub is such a cozy venue - easy to see everyone on stage together. There was also beautiful marquee with The Castellows on it out front, flashing bulbs and a neon Antone's sign. "That's my name up on the marquee" as the ladies sing in Freeway.
Back to the song - Lily said was an emotional night in the introduction noting it was a Sold Out show and they didn't play headlining show like this in a year and a half. She also says she's been fighting the worst head cold, asking everyone to sing along - even if they don't know the words!!! - to help her out. So sweet. She also say she's got two beautiful sisters to help her out too - so true. And they did, with Ellie singing along lead on some songs and doing a song song in the acoustic set too.
And you can hear EVERYONE singing along on this one - so cool!!!
