Goldenberg's Peanut Chews still made in Philadelphia
You can liken them to the hometown hero of candy bars.
Goldenberg's Peanut Chews were born out of necessity in the trenches, fueling soldiers on the front lines. Today, they thrive in snack aisles, still made right here in Philadelphia.
"It's that nice combination of crunchy peanuts, chewy, gooey molasses center covered with that really good dark chocolate," said Keith Danielewski, director of marketing.
But the bite-sized confection wasn't always enjoyed as a treat.
"In 1917, it was developed as a high-protein, high-energy ration that the troops just fell in love with," Danielewski said.
